The course gives an introduction to practical and theoretical handling, housing and using laboratory animals and how to replace, refine and reduce the use of live animals for research (3R).

To give the participants insight in how to conduct valuable and high-quality research projects with the pig as research model.

There will be lectures on legislation and how to apply for permission to perform animal experiments. Apart from gaining the knowledge of do’s and don’ts within the field, the course participants will have time to make a draft for a licence application themselves and be introduced to basic concepts such as severity assessment and humane endpoints.

Teach PhD students with the state-of-the-art knowledge on genome engineering using precision DNA nucleases, with a special focus on the RNA-guided DNA endonuclease CRISPR/Cas9. 6-4-2016 32/43 Quantitative Medical Graphics

The theoretical foundation for creation and display of quantitative graphs (graphical coding) is described. The structures of graphs are covered with a description of factors and elements of importance for effective reading of graphs (decoding). Advantages and disadvantages of various types of graphs are discussed by comparing various graphing methods applied to data sets. The course uses the SigmaPlot graphical software by which the participants will learn to produce clear graphs. In addition, exchange of data between Windows based programmes and SigmaPlot will be covered in theory and practise.

To provide students with an overview on how to take a research idea through to implementing, analyzing, and interpreting an epidemiologic study using the Danish Clinical Cancer Databases, and Denmark’s network of medical and population-based registries. Through a combination of exercises and computer labs, students will be provided with guidance on implementing, analyzing and interpreting studies using data from the clinical cancer databases.
