Statistical analysis of time-to-event data

is being offered by the Graduate School of Health, Aarhus University, spring 2018.

Criteria for participation: University degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or Master’s degree in other fields and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students).

Note! That participation in the course requires completion of ‘Basic Biostatistics’ part 1 and 2 (former known as ‘Basic Biostatistics’ (8 days)) or similar.

Aim: To provide an introduction to design, analyze and interpretation of time-to-event data.

Learning outcomes:

Content: Basic aspects of time-to-event data including censoring, truncation, choice of time scale, and competing risks. Estimation of survival curves, simple and stratified comparisons of survival curves. Sample size calculations for a clinical follow-up study with censored data. Use of Cox regression and the pseudo observation method regression to analyze data with explanatory variables. The statistical software package Stata will be used in the course. Additional statistical procedures need to be downloaded and installed in Stata. Information on the statistical procedures can be found on Blackboard. Users of other statistical packages can also attend the course, but they need to be familiar with the alternative statistical package.

The participants should expect to spend some time each week preparing for the course lectures and working on the exercises. Reserve one additional day each week for this.

Recommended knowledge for participation: Own computer with STATA. Passed course in ‘Basic Biostatistics’ part 1 and 2 (former known as ‘Basic Biostatistics’ (8 days)) or similar.
